CRYSTAL CATHEDRAL in California

Kryształowa Katedra jest protestanckim megakościołem tradycji kalwińskiej, należącym do Kościoła Reformowanego w Ameryce. Znajduje się w Garden Grove, w stanie Kalifornia, w USA. Główna świątynia Katedry zbudowana została z 10 tysięcy prostokątnych szyb i jest w stanie pomieścić 2.900 osób. Wewnątrz sali znajdują się organy posiadające 320 głosów. Szyby, z których zbudowany jest kościół, nie są mocowane do jego struktury, ale połączone ze sobą silikonem, co pozwala budynkowi przetrwać trzęsienie ziemi rozmiaru do 8 stopni. Misją kościoła jest: „znajdować potrzeby i zaspakajać je, znajdować rany i leczyć je”. Nazwa „Katedra” nie odnosi się do znaczenia, jakie nadawane jest temu terminowi w Kościele rzymskokatolickim.
W Kryształowej Katedrze ewangelizował światowej sławy kaznodzieja Billy Graham (ur. w 1918 r.). Charyzmatyczny orator - na zaproszenie chrześcijan baptystów - głosił również Słowo Boże w Polsce w 1978 r. m.in. w największej katedrze w kraju - Katedrze Kościoła rzymskokatolickiego Chrystusa Króla w Katowicach, na Jasnej Górze i w Warszawie.
W soboty po południu w godz. 18.00 - 19.00 i w niedziele przed południem oglądam od czasu do czasu telewizyjną transmisję programu TBN EUROPE z Kryształowej Katedry The Hour of Power na kanale 228 albo 312-TBN (The Trinity Broadcasting Network) lub 149-CNBC. Zawsze podziwiam niezwykłych, wręcz doskonałych głosicieli Dobrej Nowiny, czyli Ewangelii Jezusa Chrystusa. The prominent architect Philip Johnson designed the main sanctuary building, which was constructed using over 10,000 rectangular panes of glass and its sanctuary seats 2,736 people. The rectangular panes of glass are not bolted to the structure; instead they are glued to it using a silicone-based glue. This and other measures are intended to allow the building to withstand an earthquake of magnitude 8.0.
The name "Crystal Cathedral" is merely an alliterative colloquialism and does not mean that the church is a cathedral in the sense of being a church where there is a bishop's official seat; the Reformed Church in America is governed by elders. Nor is the church made of crystal. The church is a Southern California architectural landmark.
The Crystal Cathedral is well-known for the quality of its music program and the eclectic variety of its musical guests.
The church's 273 rank, five manual pipe organ is one of the largest in the world.
